Creating Opportunity
Echoing Nelson Mandela’s words of wisdom:
“education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world”,
the core belief at the Albukhary Foundation is the importance of education in shaping individuals and their contribution to society.
The community of Scholars supported by the Albukhary Foundation over the years is testament to the fact that when talented, driven yet underprivileged individuals are given an opportunity to pursue higher education, they are able to shape their own future. Today, our alumni hold notable posts in both the public and private sectors.
The Albukhary Foundation promotes learning through its core entities: the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia and the Albukhary International University. The former, established in 1998 seeks to nurture a deeper appreciation for the influence of Islamic civilization throughout the globe. The latter, which sits in the heart of a 75-acre complex in Alor Setar, Kedah, was founded with the aim of inclusion in the field of higher education.
The pursuit of knowledge through conventional education on the one hand coupled with the sharing of history through the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia’s vast display of artefacts collectively fosters appreciation for diversity and promotes tolerance.
The Founder’s own lack of opportunity to pursue education was in fact the impetus for the creation of the Albukhary Scholarship. The idea that no one should be deprived of this basic need fuelled the Foundation’s efforts in two flagship programmes: Albukhary Tuition Programme, and Albukhary Scholarship Scheme.
