Rohingya Education Center (REC) is a maiden collaboration with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Malaysia together with its implementing partner Future Global Network (FGN) Wadah. The center serves as an education platform for the children of one of the most vulnerable refugee community in the country, the Rohingyas.
The focus of the programme is those living in the outskirt of Kuantan, the capital of Pahang. The location was chosen as it fits the need of the Rohingya children from local community to have access to education closer to their home.
REC aims to alleviate poverty through education by providing quality, basic education to the targeted group. Some 120 students of early primary age have been registered for the first intake in May 2015. The education module adheres to the curriculum as per Malaysian Education Ministry’s recognised syllabus.
